Sunday Brunch In Albany: Iron Gate Cafe

Now that I have a full-time job, (like a real grown up) I love to relax and enjoy my weekends even more than I ever have in the past. Which means I tend to sleep in and stay in bed as late and as long as possible. Peeking my head out from under the covers just enough to sip some coffee is acceptable as long as I don't spill, right?
I'm also a huge fan of weekend brunch. Just being able to sit down in a cute restaurant or tiny cafe, while drinking an extra spicy Blood Mary and enjoying a delicious brunch dish sounds wonderful, doesn't it?!
Since my mom was coming to visit and I hadn't seen her in quite some time, I wanted to take her to a place I knew we'd both enjoy together. So, we hopped in my car and I drove a couple of minutes to the Iron Gate Cafe. I've been here once before this past fall and it was love at first sip... and bite.

We passed through the iron gates...and admired the flowers as we walked through the garden patio to be seated in the cafe.

We were greeted by a bunch of vibrant greens and pretty pink & red flowers. (Attention readers: are the pink flowers roses, too?)

Sunday was so beautiful and just a teeny bit hot, so we opted for their indoor seating. I didn't get to snap any pictures, but the walls are covered with various pictures of the King of Rock n' Roll, Mr. Elvis Presley. The staff was friendly and so adorable, each waitress rocked their own personal style which inspired me to get more creative with my own wardrobe (but that's a different post, for a different day).
We started off with coffee and drinks.

Mom had a mango mimosa and I ordered their house Bloody Mary with Russian rice wine.
Which was just amazing, if not better than the first time.

So the Bloody Mary is stealing the show, but just look at all that yummy spiciness going on in there. Don't worry, it's okay to be jealous, I would be too!

Going into brunch I had a good idea of what I wanted to order. And as tempting as all of the other menu items were, I stuck to my guns and ordered the Bacado Omelet - with you guess it, bacon and avocado, as well as cheddar, homemade salsa, sour cream and scallions.

The omelet was perfect and loaded with so much bacon. I am obsesssed with their hollandaise sauce, especially the pepperjeck one. So, I obviously had to order some on the side. It's rich and creamy (as a good hollandaise should be) with a perfect kick.

(Bad picture, but beautiful color).

Mom picked my second choice, Florentine Benedict with two poached eggs, fresh spinach and tomato over an open-faced Portuguese muffin topped with pesto hollandaise. With a side of maple sausage.

The Portuguese muffin resembled the style English muffin, however it a bit dense and didn't have as many nooks & crannies.

I wont lie, I kind of wanted to steal her dish. It was so delicious- the pesto hollandaise was perfect. It was mild enough so it didn't take away from the freshness of the spinach and tomato, yet complimented the overall dish perfectly by adding an extra bit of flavor. Oh and the eggs, they were poached to perfection!

( Again, sorry about the blurry photo.)
